At Cogenhoe, we follow a whole school Music curriculum which ensures that every single child is immersed in and has the opportunity to cultivate a love of music whilst developing their musical skills. The curriculum is progressive and builds on learning each year. All of our children are exposed to musical terminology and techniques which enhances their understanding and ability.

Each year group aims to work towards the set objectives that we expect the children to have achieved by the end of the year. Concepts are built on from the previous years’ learning and new ones are introduced seamlessly; ensuring that every single child is able to make progress.

We value our working partnership with Northamptonshire Musical and Performing Arts Trust (NMPAT); their specialist teachers provide engaging, inspiring lessons for all of our pupils on a regular basis which complements our provision even further.

Furthermore, children have the opportunity to take part in individual or group music tuition sessions both before, during and after school.  We also work alongside ‘Rocksteady’ which enables our children to experience playing as part of a band!

We want music to be a part of our children’s every day life; they hear it playing outside in our school grounds to welcome them in at the start of the school day and they enjoy it on the playground during their break and lunchtime. Music is truly good for the soul and has a huge impact on our mood and feelings. Our staff aim to make music part of everyday practice in our classrooms too.

Our children will leave our school appreciating and valuing music and the impact it can have on us as individuals. Children will have also  had the opportunity to identify their own individual, musical talents and strengths; ensuring that they are confident and established musicians, ready to embark on their next challenge.
